The Mount in Shrewsbury – update re hole in the road
Investigations carried out today (Tuesday 30 October 2012) by Shropshire Council’s contractors Ringway, and by Severn Trent Water, have confirmed that a broken nine-inch-wide sewer connection pipe was the cause of the hole that appeared in the road surface on The Mount in Shrewsbury on Monday (29 October).
Severn Trent will now carry out further investigations to establish the extent of the repair needed, and then carry out repairs to the pipe, and to the road surface.
Work is expected to last at least two days and temporary traffic signals will remain in place while this work is carried out.
Shropshire Council will work closely with Severn Trent to minimise any disruption to road users on this busy route into the town centre.
The damaged sewer pipe comes from a property high above the wall that runs along the side of the road, and connects into the main sewer. The damage to the pipe is approximately 1.5m below the surface.
