Event to showcase services for children and young people with disabilities
Parents and carers of children and young people with disabilities are invited to a Market Place Day, organised by Shropshire Council to find out more about the range of support available.
The event, at Shirehall in Shrewsbury tomorrow (Tuesday 23 October 2012), will showcase services for children and young people with disabilities in the county.
People who work with children and young people with disabilities are also urged to come along, take a look around the stands and chat to representatives from the different organisations.
The charity Action for Children and Shropshire Council’s youth positive activities team are among the organisations and services that will be brought together at the event, which takes place in Shirehall’s foyer from 10am to 2pm.
Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council Cabinet member responsible for disability, said:
“It is really important that parents and carers of children and young people with disabilities are given as much information as possible on the services available to them.
“This is another way we can provide an opportunity to share information and advice.
“We are running a pilot with a number of families with children with disabilities to see how using a personal budget could benefit them, so it is particularly important that they know about the range of options they can choose from.
“The event also offers a networking opportunity for the organisations taking part, and gives staff the chance to learn about new services and be updated on existing services, taking away information that they can share.”
The Market Place Day comes after a successful similar event held at Shirehall in August 2012 which put the spotlight on support services for all ages.
