Leisure services and council business plans on Loton and Tern LJC agenda

The development of new business opportunities by Shropshire Council will be on the agenda at the next meeting of the Loton and Tern Local Joint Committee (LJC) when it meets at Bomere Heath Village Hall on Thursday 21 June at 7pm.

George Candler, Shropshire Council’s area director, will be attending the meeting to talk about Shropshire Council’s plans to develop new businesses to run services, and to explain how local groups can bid to run services.  The presentation will also include an update on leisure services in the Shrewsbury area, and a chance for the public to ask questions about council services.

John Everall, Shropshire Councillor for Tern division and a member of the LJC, said:

“The development of a new model of delivering services in Shropshire is being developed by Shropshire Council and the presentation from George Candler will be a good way for us to find out more about this.  The way we commission services is changing, and we want local people to help us decide where to focus our services in the future.  Many local groups will also be able to help deliver services, so we will use the LJC meeting to highlight how the new process will work.”

“The meeting will also look at how leisure services in the area are being run.  In this Olympics year there is a great deal of focus on sport, and we’ll be looking at what activities are available in Shropshire for people to get involved.”

The meeting will also review the funding applications that the LJC has received since their last meeting, which includes an application from Alberbury Village Hall for a hearing loop for their hall, and a request for funding to support a new beaver cub scout group in Bomere Heath.  The public will be warmly welcomed to the meeting to join in the discussions.
