Council launches exciting opportunity for students and graduates
An internship programme is being launched to give ambitious students and graduates the opportunity of paid work experience at Shropshire Council.
The council is issuing a plea for students and recent graduates to get in touch to take advantage of what is a rare opportunity to work in a rapidly changing local government environment.
The aim of the programme is to support students and graduates, raise their career aspirations, increase their awareness of what a council does and make Shropshire Council an employer of choice.
The paid placements will last for three months, starting in June 2012, and will provide ambitious students and graduates the opportunity to work on a key project on Shropshire’s programme of transformation.
As well as this, the council is launching the recruitment for its Graduate Programme in June 2012. This is a two-year talent management programme for graduates who have the potential to become the future leaders of the organisation.
Tina Woodward, Shropshire Council’s deputy Cabinet member, said:
“This route into the workplace gives a fantastic opportunity for young people to explore their future options and gives vital experience of working in a fast-paced environment. It’s increasingly difficult for students and graduates to get started in their chosen career, and this gives them a real chance to get a foothold in local government.
“Local government is entering into an exciting phase in its history with a substantial change agenda, and we need dedicated and outstanding individuals to develop into future leaders of the public sector.”
