Council offers congratulations and advice to GCSE students
Shropshire Council has congratulated pupils receiving their GCSE results today (Thursday, 20 August 2026).
Andy Hall, Cabinet member for children and education, said:
“I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to all Year 11 students across Shropshire receiving their GCSE results today.
“This is a significant life milestone and reflects the hard work, determination and commitment that you have shown throughout your studies. Whether you have achieved the grades you were hoping for or are considering alternative pathways, you should be proud of the effort and resilience you have demonstrated to reach this point.
“Your success has been supported by dedicated teachers, support staff, parents, carers and families who have encouraged and guided you throughout your journey. Today is an opportunity to celebrate everything that has been achieved together.”
David Shaw, director of children’s services, said:
“As you move on to the next stage of your life in education, training or employment, remember that there are many routes to success. Whether you are progressing to sixth form, college, apprenticeships or other work-based opportunities, exciting possibilities lie ahead. You may even end up working in a job or role in the future that does not exist today, and you must keep learning and adapting to take on these new challenges.
“Shropshire’s young people continue to impress us with their talent, ambition and determination. I am incredibly proud of what you have accomplished and confident that you will make a positive contribution to your communities and to the future of our county.
“On behalf of everyone involved in education across Shropshire, I wish you every success and happiness in the next chapter of your lives. Well done and congratulations.”
