Work to start on new RAF Cosford to Cosford station footpath

Map showing the road closure and diversion route
Work to construct a new footpath along the road from RAF Cosford to Cosford railway station is to be carried out from 6am on Monday 22 June to 8pm on Sunday 12 July [2026].
The work is being funded using £350,000 awarded to Shropshire Council from Active Travel England.
The path is much needed at a location where people are currently having to walk along the road with no safe refuge. New street lighting will also be installed alongside the new footpath as part of the work.

During the work Worcester Road West, Cosford will be closed 24 hours a day and a signed diversion will be in place. There will also be traffic restrictions on Long Lane, Neachley.
Access through Long Lane will be provided for properties and businesses within the closure, for emergency vehicles, and for HGVs and coaches travelling to Cosford Museum. All other traffic should follow the diversion route.
Depending on vehicle type people may be able to find an alternative to the official diversion.
Access through Worcester Road West will be restricted to pedestrians only.
Work will be carried out by Kier Infrastructure on behalf of Shropshire Council and is due to be completed in time for the school summer holidays in July [2026].
People are asked not to park on the road while the work is being carried out, to help avoid disruption and delays to the work.
