Perches House, Shrewsbury – an update

Perches House – 29 May 2026
In April [2026] Shropshire Council began work to erect a scaffolding roof over Perches House, on Windsor Place in Shrewsbury, which was badly damaged in a major fire in the early hours of 27 January that very sadly claimed the life of the late owner, Rose Roberts.
The scaffolding work is being carried out under an Urgent Works Notice to provide a temporary roof over the Grade II* listed building, to protect both it and the adjoining properties, and is now nearing completion.
This has been a complex project and, as part of the latest phase of work, the scaffolding contractors are now fabricating the main roof spans on Windsor Place, within an extended compound outside Windsor House.
A crane is currently due to be on site from 8am on Tuesday 2 June to manoeuvre the roof spans into position on the scaffolding frame. The crane will be located on the corner of Windsor Place and St Marys Place. Parking will be suspended on St Marys Place from 10pm today (Monday 1 June) until the crane has finished on 2 June. If all goes to plan the crane will be finished by Tuesday afternoon/evening.
Watergate Mansions car park will be closed on Tuesday 2 June and alternative arrangements are being put in place in Shropshire Council car parks.

Note: the ability of the crane to operate will be weather dependent and timescales may therefore change.
This will conclude the majority of the scaffolding works and, with the exception of the ongoing closure of a section of Windsor Place, the disruption will then reduce.
The contractors will notify the affected residents and businesses on St Marys Place of the planned work and traffic restrictions.
Shropshire Council would like to extend its thanks to residents and surrounding business for their ongoing co-operation during this period.
