Ashford Bridge to close for maintenance work

Related topics: Highways, transport and environmental maintenance

Ashford Bridge – which carries the C6250 over the River Teme in south Shropshire – will be closed for maintenance work from 20 to 31 July [2026]

The work will involve removal of vegetation from the structure, crack repairs, repointing of open joints on the internal faces of the parapets, masonry repairs to displacement at the upstream end of the arch, and a principal inspection of the structure.

To carry out the work safely it will be necessary to close the bridge to vehicular traffic for the full duration of the work.

During the closure, traffic will be diverted via a signed diversion route. Further details can be found at https://one.network/?tmi=GB45189112

Access for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained throughout the work, and access to properties will be maintained up to the bridge closure point.

The work will be carried out by Shropshire Council’s term maintenance contractor, Kier, with supervision provided by WSP on behalf of Shropshire Council.

Advance warning signs will be installed at the site, and information letters will be distributed to local properties.
