Seven Oswestry roads to be surface dressed

Seven roads in Oswestry are to be surface dressed between 5 and 21 May [2026].
The roads are:
- High Fawr Avenue
- Bryn Rise
- Llanforda Mead
- Breidden Close
- White Minster
- High Lea Close
- Hampton Fields
Work will be carried out in three phases as follows, when the roads will be closed from 7am to 5pm each day.
- 5 to 7 May – Road closure for surface dressing
- 19 to 20 May – Road closure for surface seal*
- 20 to 21 May – Road closure for white lining
*During the surface seal there will be no vehicle access whilst the surfaces cures. This takes approximately 30 minutes.
The road will have an initial sweep within 24 hours of the new surface being laid. The sweeper returns after seven days to remove any residual loose chippings.
During the closures access to the work areas will be maintained for the following:
- Residents who live and reside within the road closure.
- Businesses located within the closure (if applicable)
- Pedestrians, dismounted cyclists and equestrians.
- Emergency vehicles.
People are asked to ensure vehicles are not parked on the road whilst the work is in progress.
More than 70 stretches of road across Shropshire being treated this year as part of Shropshire Council’s surface dressing programme.
Surface dressing is a quick, efficient and cost-effective way of preventing potholes, maintaining skid-resistance and waterproofing road surfaces. It forms a major part of the council’s annual road maintenance programme and is being carried out alongside other preventative and reactive maintenance work.
Work will be carried out by Kier Infrastructure on behalf of Shropshire Council.
