Mytton Oak Road cabling work set to be completed in early May

High‑voltage cabling work on Mytton Oak Road, Shrewsbury linked to the Shropshire Homes housing development is now expected to be completed in early May [2026].
To reduce disruption options such as night‑time working or using land within Shrewsbury Hospital were explored with S & R Construction but ruled out due to timing, programme, and land ownership constraints. As a result work will continue along the original route.
Delays to the project have mainly been caused by difficult excavation conditions and the large number of existing underground services, as well as time spent assessing alternative approaches. Completing the first connection point is critical to support up to 30 new homes that are due to be occupied by September [2026].
Work will continue under temporary traffic signals during off‑peak hours only (9.30am to 4pm). Signals will be manually operated and removed daily, with arrangements closely monitored in liaison with the contractor and the hospital to minimise impacts on patients, staff, emergency vehicles and the public.
Work will be closely monitored by Shropshire Council to ensure that the early May deadline is met.
