Library users in Church Stretton and Bridgnorth are facing disruption while new shelving is being installed in their local branches.

The Friends of Church Stretton have funded the replacement displays, and the library is closed now. It reopens on Tuesday 19 December 2023, after their installation. The Visitor Information Centre is also closed.

People with items on loan have been assured there will be no penalty for late returns during the closure period.

In Bridgnorth there will be more limited access to books while new shelving funded by Arts Council England is installed. The work will be carried out from Monday 11 December until Monday 18 December 2023. Anyone needing assistance can ask a member of staff.

Robert Macey, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for culture and digital, said:-

“The new shelving in both libraries will improve the facilities for our customers and staff. The Friends of Church Stretton Library have generously funded the work there, and we have been fortunate to receive Arts Council England for the shelves at Bridgnorth.

“I am sure they will refresh the look and feel of the libraries and will allow the spaces to be used creatively too.”

The Arts Council England funding will also be providing new shelving for libraries in Shrewsbury, Ludlow, Oswestry and Whitchurch. Dates for these installations will be confirmed soon.
