Closure of Whittery Bridge, near Chirbury, for repair work

Related topics: Highways, transport and environmental maintenance / Partner organisations

Whittery Bridge near Chirbury is to close from 18 to 26 September for essential maintenance work.

The bridge carries a C classified road over the river Camlad.

The work will involve raking out and repointing of the arch ring faces, replacement of damaged brickwork to the underside of the arch, general repointing of open joints, and areas of brick stitching.

To carry out the proposed work safely it will be necessary to close the bridge to vehicular traffic between 8am and 4pm each day.

When the road is closed, traffic will be diverted by a signed diversion route.

Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the works, and access to frontages will be maintained up to the bridge closure.

The work will be carried out by Shropshire Council’s term maintenance contractor Kier, with supervision being provided by WSP on behalf of Shropshire Council.
