Closure of Stanton River Bridge for essential repairs

Related topics: Highways, transport and environmental maintenance

Stanton River Bridge near Shawbury is set to close from 11 to 26 September [2023] for repair work.

The bridge carries the unclassified road from the B5063 Moreton Corbet junction to Stanton village.

The work will involve taking down and reconstructing the impact damage caused by a road traffic collision to the upstream parapet and repointing work to the downstream parapet.

Due to the nature of the work required the road closure will need to remain in place for 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The normal working hours will be from 7.30am to 4pm.

When the bridge is closed, traffic will be diverted by a signed diversion route.

Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the proposed works, although there may be a short delay while the site is made safe to travel through due to the restricted width of the carriageway.

Inevitably there will be some disruption during these works, but every effort will be made to minimise any inconvenience.

The work will be carried out by Shropshire Council’s term maintenance contractor Kier, with supervision being provided by WSP on behalf of Shropshire Council.
