Council events celebrating Armed Forces Week

Shropshire Council is celebrating our county’s Armed Forces community on Armed Forces Day on Saturday 24 June 2023.

As well as hosting the Shropshire Armed Forces Family Fun Day, proudly supported by Wace Morgan solicitors, at Shrewsbury Castle on Saturday 24 June, there will be other offers to benefit both serving personnel, veterans and their families at our leisure centres and those run by our partners.

All of Shropshire Council leisure facilities will be offering free access for serving personnel, family members and veterans on Saturday 24 June and Sunday 25 June.

Leisure facilities run by Halo Leisure have free access for serving personnel, family members and veterans on Saturday 24 June.

Teme Leisure will be giving free access for serving personnel on Saturday 24 June, and  Shropshire Community Leisure Trust is providing free taster sessions for gym and swim for serving personnel, family members and veterans on Saturday 24 June.

Serving personnel will need to show their service card. Some veterans may have a veterans badge or an ID card to qualify.

The Shropshire Council-organised Armed Forces Day celebration at Shrewsbury Castle offers a day full of family-friendly activities, which also allows visitors to show their gratitude towards Armed Forces personnel both past and present.

The event is between 11am and 3pm and is free. Throughout the day, there will interactive activities for all the family from local emergency services, charities and Shrewsbury Town FC.

There will be a line-up of live music and a number of local food and drink stalls, free valuation of wartime memorabilia, the opportunity to view vintage military vehicles, and free SmartWater tagging of war medals.

Visitors on the day will also have free access to the Soldiers of Shropshire Museum.

Both Shropshire Council and Wace Morgan are holders of the Armed Forces Covenant Gold Award, and have been recognised for their respective efforts to provide exceptional support to the Armed Forces community.
