Two Shropshire carers recently enjoyed a free music gig at Shropshire Council’s Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury thanks to the generosity of UK pop band The Christians.

Carer Hazel Jump and her mother had won the free tickets as part of a prize draw organised by Shropshire Council’s carers support team.

Margarete Davies, Shropshire carers manager and carer lead, said:-

“A prize draw was held through our carer register, and the carer who was the lucky winner, Hazel Jump, had a wonderful evening at Theatre Severn enjoying the band’s timeless sounds.

“Hazel’s mother is also a carer and has always been a big fan of live music, so Hazel jumped at the chance to enter the draw and hoped they would win a wonderful night out at the theatre. They were both delighted to win and to be able to have an evening out which gave them a wonderful break, enjoying laughs and a little dancing.”

Hazel is one of 1,118 carers in Shropshire who have joined the Shropshire Carer Register and has started to benefit from the support provided by the carers support team.

As well as occasional competitions, events and training opportunities, the carers support team offers a range of support, including helping produce a carer emergency plan, regular email news items and updates, local and online support groups, 1:1 support, and a telephone support line operating Mondays to Fridays 9am to 5pm.

There are currently 29,704 people aged 5+ years who identify as a carer in Shropshire (figures from Census 2021). Shropshire carers support service are encouraging as many of these people to sign up to the Carers Register to enjoy the benefits and support the team can offer.
