Congratulations to Shropshire winners of tourism awards

Shropshire’s tourism industry is celebrating after securing a number of awards at the West Midlands Tourism Awards 2023.

The 2023 awards, staged by the West Midlands Growth Company, celebrated the successes of tourism businesses across the region and promoted the economic benefits leisure and tourism offer, its venues, people, experiences and accommodation.

Shropshire Council, which is looking to build the visitor economy in the county by bringing industry partners together, championed Shropshire’s entries and welcomed success on the night, which included a clean sweep in the self-catering accommodation of the year award.

Rob Gittins, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for culture and digital, said:-

“We were delighted Shropshire had a number of businesses up for awards in various categories as our team worked hard to encourage businesses to put themselves forward.

“We are working with partner organisations to develop and enhance the visitor economy in Shropshire and continue to promote our area as a healthy place to live work and play. I am delighted at our business’ success and that so many awards are being brought back to Shropshire.”

Eligible winners from the West Midlands Tourism Awards will automatically feed into the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2023 for the chance to be recognised as a national winner.

The Shropshire award winners are: Accessible & inclusive tourism award, silver, Burlton Cottages, Shrewsbury; Holiday park & small serviced accommodation of the year, silver, Riverside Cabins, Shrewsbury; Ethical, responsible & sustainable tourism award, gold – Riverside Cabins, Shrewsbury; Tourism event/festival of the year, silver, Shrewsbury Food Festival; Resilience and innovation award, gold – Ironbridge View Townhouse; Self-catering accommodation of the year, gold – Eaton Manor Country Estate, Church Stretton, silver – Burlton Cottages, Shrewsbury and bronze – Riverside Cabins, Shrewsbury.
