Shropshire leisure centres are throwing open their doors to encourage people to explore classes and activities for free during the Big Open Weekend on Saturday 11 March and Sunday 12 March 2023.

Shropshire Community Leisure Trust (SCLT), which runs Market Drayton Swimming Pool, Oswestry Leisure Centre, Shrewsbury Sports Village and The Quarry Swimming and Fitness Centre in Shrewsbury on behalf of Shropshire Council, is inviting people to come along and try different activities over the two-day promotion.

Rhys Collins, SCLT deputy partnership manager, said:-

“Not many things in life are free, but our Big Open Weekend is!

“Whether you’re a current user of our centres, someone who’s been before but had a break, or maybe you’ve never visited our facilities, I’d encourage you to come on down – this event is for everyone.

“We know times are tough for many people out there right now, so a chance to enjoy free, fun activities is sure to go down well. Check out our websites for a full list of what’s on and when. We’ll also be offering some great offers across the two days, making this Big Open Weekend an event you really won’t want to miss.”

Rob Gittins, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for culture and digital, said:-

“Our leisure centres offer something for everyone and we are delighted to be able to showcase the best of the best at the Big Open Weekend.

“The benefits of regular exercise and movement cannot be underestimated, on not just our physical health but our mental wellbeing too, and Shropshire Council wants to support the good health of the population.

“There are some great offers that are too good to miss, so people can sign up at our leisure centres and there truly is something for everyone, whether you are looking at regular training in a gym, swimming for fitness, or yoga to strengthen your body and improve your mindset.”
