Free pumpkins for children at Shrewsbury’s Darwin shopping centre this Halloween

Related topics: Economic growth / Partner organisations

Children visiting Shrewsbury’s Darwin shopping centre will have the chance to pick up and take home a free pumpkin this Halloween – and meet some creepy crawlies.

The Darwin’s Halloween team will be giving away hundreds of pumpkins from Wednesday 26 to Sunday 30 October [2022], at The Collective on the Centre’s lower level.

The pumpkins will be available – while stocks last – with people asked to take only one per child.

There will also be a chance to meet some creepy crawlies on Sunday 30 October, between 10am and 3pm, from snakes and lizards to tarantulas and chinchillas. The free drop-in sessions will run throughout the day, next to the lift on the Centre’s upper level.

And to help people carve the perfect pumpkin, the Centre team have created a handy short video carving guide – see here – and some carving design templates to download and use – see here.

Kevin Lockwood, Shrewsbury shopping centres manager, said:

“We’re delighted to once again be giving away free pumpkins this year so that people of all ages can carve creative, spooky, pumpkin designs at home for Halloween.

“To get in the spooky, fun spirit of Halloween we’re giving away hundreds of free pumpkins, while supplies last, to our shoppers this half term so that everyone, big and small, can carve creative designs at home for Halloween.

“Simply pop in between Wednesday 26 and Sunday 30 October and pick one up from one of our Halloween team in The Collective.

“And why not take the chance to meet some of our fantastically creepy creatures too!”

The Darwin team are also giving visitors the chance to win a £50 Wilko voucher.

Kevin Lockwood added:

“Just head to DVD Megastore in The Collective from 24 to 31 October, pick up a trail sheet and find the skeleton crew hiding around the Centre.

“Then fill in the crew names and return your trail sheet to the DVD Megastore team for a sweet treat and to be entered into the prize draw.”
