Shropshire Council’s wholly-owned housebuilding company Cornovii Developments Limited has completed its first development.

The Frith, in Monkmoor, Shrewsbury, has created 33 new homes through a mixed tenures scheme which caters for key workers and local people.

The development was constructed by Cornovii Developments Limited’s development partner, Shrewsbury-based Morris Property. Construction of the two, three and four-bedroom properties began in autumn 2020 and all the homes were reserved off plan.

Harpreet Rayet, Cornovii Developments Limited managing director, said:

We are proud to have finished the site and to have welcomed 33 new customers to their new homes

The Frith is Cornovii Developments Limited’s first venture and has proved a great success with strong interest expressed from the early stages of construction through to the last sale completion.

Its success demonstrates we are meeting a demand for high quality affordable homes in our communities and we are already well underway with other sites including Ifton Green, where we are building 35 homes on the former school site in Ifton Heath, St Martins.

One of the first people to move in at The Frith were Kay and Kevin Clipson, who said:

Buying a home which is closer to our family with smart technology and that is walking distance to Shrewsbury town centre was a huge priority for us. We’re also really happy with how sustainable the properties are at The Frith which is going to save us so much money on utility bills.

Rob Gittins, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for digital, data and insight, and built housing, added:

The development at The Frith is a great example of how good quality, mixed tenure and sustainable homes can be built on a brownfield site using local contractors and suppliers. They meet the need for affordable homes for local people.

To support local people and infrastructure near The Frith. Cornovii Developments also made a contribution of £160,000 to fund the construction of a BMX track at Upton Lane, Belvidere. This request was made by local member Pam Moseley and Shrewsbury Town Council.

Cornovii Developments’ commitment to the local economy also extends to its supply chain, in which 80% of its suppliers are from Shropshire. In total, every £1 spent on construction at The Frith returns £2.88 to support the local economy.

All properties Cornovii Developments homes are built to achieve 31% higher energy efficiency standards than an average new build home and benefit from solar panels, smart technology and increased insulation levels.

Cornovii Developments is a private limited company set up by Shropshire Council to develop a range of new and sustainable homes to meet the council’s Housing Strategy priority ensuring people whose housing requirements are not met through open market housing, can access housing that meets their needs.
