Lezley Picton, Leader of Shropshire Council, is to host a Meet the Leader event in Church Stretton next month.

Originally planned to take place in Bridgnorth, an alternative location had to be found due to the potential timing of a future by-election to seek a new Shropshire Councillor in the town following the death of former councillor, Les Winwood.

Lezley will be at Mayfair Community Centre (SY6 6BL) in Church Stretton on Thursday 8 September 2022 from 10am until 12pm.

Lezley meets a local resident at her Meet the Leader event in Bishop’s Castle.

Lezley said:-

“I am really looking forward to visiting Church Stretton. However, I am disappointed that I am unable to visit Bridgnorth as planned.

“Even though a by-election has yet to be called, it could be called any day now, which means going to Bridgnorth wouldn’t be the right thing to do. I have no plans to cancel my visit though, just reschedule it. I am hoping to get a date confirmed early next year.”

Everyone is welcome to come along to the event in Church Stretton and sit down with Lezley to share their ideas to help make Shropshire an even better place.

Lezley said:-

“I can’t wait to hear about the things that really matter to you.

“If you can, please make sure that you come along to meet me. In return, I promise to listen, and anything I can’t answer I will write down and make sure that it’s actioned as appropriate.

“I look forward to seeing you there.”

Slots during Lezley’s Meet the Leader event will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Lezley’s visit to Church Stretton follows a series of Meet the Leader events which have so far taken place in Ludlow, Ellesmere, Market Drayton and Bishop’s Castle.

There is also another one planned for Wem later this year.

More information on future events will be issued nearer the time, and many more are planned for 2023.

The pre-election period in the run up to a by-election means that any other activities should be avoided if they could influence, or be regarded as influencing, the outcome of elections.
