NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin (NHS STW) is leading on a primary care development that will bring significant investment into Shrewsbury and surrounding areas, help deliver sustainable primary care services, and help the health and care system maintain and expand a highly experienced primary care workforce.

The proposal for the Shrewsbury Health and Wellbeing Hub involves the co-location of six GP practices in south Shrewsbury alongside other health, social care, and voluntary and community services.

NHS STW has identified land on Oteley Road in Meole Brace as a potential site for the hub. This has yet to be submitted for planning permission.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for adult social care and public health, said:-

“Shropshire Council is one of a number of partners involved with this project.  As such, Shropshire Council wants to ensure that any proposed site is suitable and accessible for the county’s residents.

“We are aware of concerns from some patients around public transport to the potential site on Oteley Road in Meole Brace. The council has always been clear that good public transport links to this site would be key, and is looking into potential transport options for the site.

“The council is also aware of concerns around the location of the proposed site, and as such is proactively working with NHS STW to help identify if there are any other alternative site options in the Shrewsbury area that could help address these issues and also meet the requirements for the Hub.”
