Yesterday (Wednesday 23 February 2022), Lezley Picton, Leader of Shropshire Council, held her second Meet the Leader session, at Our Space in Ellesmere.

A steady stream of residents came through the library doors, eager to talk to Lezley about their ideas and the things that matter to them.

Items discussed included parking, tourism, and the volume and type of traffic going through the town; as well as the lack of taxis and public transport during the night, and the impact this has on the town’s late-night economy.

Lezley said:-

“Ellesmere is a fabulous town, and I was really pleased that I took the opportunity to have another walk around before the session started.

“I was delighted that people took time out of their busy day to come and talk to me.

“It was really, really useful and we came away with lots of things to think about and explore further. I will be talking with our other Cabinet members about the issues raised and we’ll do all we can to make a difference.

“Everyone was so welcoming, and I could sense a real community spirit which was lovely.”

Meet the Leader is part of a series of sessions taking place all over the county, offering residents the chance to ask questions and raise any concerns with Lezley herself.

The next session will take place soon, although the date, time and location is yet to be confirmed.

Lezley added:-

“Meet the Leader is something I’ve just started to do and it’s proving to be a great way for me to get out into different communities and hear first-hand what really matters to you.

“We will confirm a new date in a different part of the county soon – I look forward to seeing you there.”
