Latest flooding information and advice – 4pm 25 February 2022

The big clean-up is still under way across Shropshire after the county was hit by severe flooding and we are making great progress as the waters recede.

Council crews have been out across the county cleaning streets, roads and car parks so towns and villages can reopen successfully.

Shrewsbury is largely back to normal today (Friday 25 February 2022): St Julian’s Friars car park has reopened; Frankwell Main Car Park is now open (4.15pm 25 Feb) with reduced spaces (just 400) until further notice. Frankwell Riverside remains closed.

Gravel Hill,  Atcham to Cross Houses, and Chiltern Lane, are still closed as are some low-lying footpaths. Sydney Avenue in Castlefields, Shrewsbury is now open.

While roads have been closed to traffic we have taken the opportunity to carry out highways maintenance in Coleham, Smithfield Road, Wyle Cop and on the A442. We’ve also repaired our car parks.

In Bridgnorth we have road sweepers out and both Riverside and Friar’s Street will be reopened today (25 February). We are waiting for floods to recede in Severn Terrace, Doctors Lane and Southwell Riverside, but teams will be working through the weekend to clean these and we expect them to be open by Monday (28 February).

Skips in Shrewsbury

Skips are being distributed in the worst affected areas. They will be in five locations in Shrewsbury, two in Bridgnorth and also in Melverley. These are to help people affected by the floods and not for general use. Please be respectful of those people’s needs.

The clean-up is ongoing in Melverley and Pentre and again we will have teams out over the weekend to help these communities.

At 9am today there was one flood warning in place for the River Severn at Quatford, and four flood alerts at Lower Teme, River Severn in Shropshire, Severn Vyrnwy confluence and the Tern and Perry catchments.
