Proposed bridge repair work will be taking place on the bridge across the River Tern between Walkmill Bridge and the Sutton Grange junction. This will require the temporary closure of the bridge on Tuesday 11 January 2022 and is estimated to take approximately three days.

The work will involve the repair and resetting of loose coping stones to the bridge parapets.

The normal working hours will be 9.30am-2.45pm. While the road is closed, traffic will be diverted via the A529 and local roads by a signed diversion.

Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the works, and access to frontages will be maintained up to the bridge closure.

The works will be carried out by the council’s term maintenance contractor Kier, with supervision being provided by WSP on behalf of the council.

Dean Carroll, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for physical infrastructure, said:-

“The work we are undertaking is essential to the long term stability of the bridge and will ensure its usability for years to come. We always try to limit disruption caused by roadworks, but unfortunately some disruption is inevitable whilst these essential works are carried out.”

Ian Nellins, a local Shropshire Councillor for Market Drayton West, said:-

“I am pleased that work on this bridge will be done next week. The bridge is used extensively for pedestrian and vehicle access to properties on Sutton Road and Market Drayton Golf Course, so it is important that the bridge is properly maintained.”
