Warning of delays in Shrewsbury next week due to emergency sewer work

Visitors to Shrewsbury town centre next week are being advised of possible delays as Severn Trent Water carry out emergency work to repair a sewer outside 16 Wyle Cop.

Despite a previous repair undertaken by Severn Trent Water, the property has been experiencing internal flooding issues.

Severn Trent have been investigating the issues further and – to establish the cause of the flooding – a new chamber will need to be installed, to provide access onto the affected culvert where it joins the main sewer. This will allow operatives to undertake a CCTV survey and a cleanse of the system.

Work to install the chamber will begin on Monday 13 December, and is anticipated to take three days.

During the work temporary two-way traffic lights will be in place, and a traffic management operative will be on site all day, monitoring and reacting to any traffic delays.

Drivers are encouraged to use alternative routes – or public transport – where possible.

Affected residents and businesses will be notified in advance of the work starting.
