Residents living in social housing across Shropshire are invited to find out how they can influence decision-making that affects them, be supported by their landlords and share their views, at the first ever dedicated tenants conference.

The online Tenants Voice Conference 2022 will be live streamed from 10am on Tuesday 25 January and Wednesday 26 January 2022, and offers the 19,000 social housing tenants across the county the opportunity to have their voice heard, and to find out more about their landlord and their priorities for the coming years.

Tenants Voice 2022 will explore four key topics affecting residents, their community, and their homes, including:-

  • Health and wellbeing
  • Tackling loneliness and isolation
  • Creating stronger communities and neighbourhoods
  • Climate change.

Key sessions and areas of interest will also look at:–

  • What does climate change mean for social housing?
  • The future of social housing in Shropshire
  • How can I influence key decisions which affect me and my community?
  • Community-led development in Shropshire.

The conference is a partnership event between Shropshire Council and Shropshire housing providers, including:-

  • Shropshire Rural Housing Association
  • Wrekin Housing Group
  • Connexus
  • Housing Plus Group
  • Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing
  • Bromford Housing.

Jane Trethewey, Shropshire Council’s assistant director – homes and communities, said:-

“We are really excited to be hosting our first Tenants Voice event for Shropshire along with our key housing partners.

“Our goal is to create a new opportunity for all our social housing tenants to talk to us about the things that matter most to them.

“We are focusing this first event on themes which residents have shared already, and are opening the door for people to find out more about how their landlords and Shropshire Council can support them, as well as to share with us their good ideas on how we can work with them in future to make life better in their homes and neighbourhoods.

“If you want to know more about how you can influence the decisions taken by your landlord that affect you, your community, and your home, then please join us at Tenants Voice 2022 to hear from fellow tenants and from representatives across Shropshire’s social housing landlords.

“We also look forward to giving some great tips and pointers on healthy living, stronger communities, climate change, better links between landlords and tenants, and much more.”

Wayne Gethings, Chair of the Shropshire Social Housing Forum and Group Chief Executive at The Wrekin Housing Group, added:-

“Customer voice is right at the top of the agenda now, so I am really looking forward to this conference that will bring together tenants from across the county to discuss the common challenges and opportunities facing the housing sector and residents.

“I encourage all residents to sign up for the conference and get involved with some of the great sessions we have planned.”

Sue Adams, Managing Director of Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing, said:-

“I am delighted that we are able to bring tenants from across the county. It is an opportunity to share their experiences and tell us what the important issues are for them. We will use the information that tenants give us to help us make sure we are addressing the important issues for tenants at STAR Housing. It would be great to get as wide a range of views as possible so would like as many to be involved as possible in this important event.”
