Waiting restrictions to be introduced in some areas of Shrewsbury

In response to requests received, and following completion of the required formal consultation in October 2019,  a number of new traffic regulation orders for parking/waiting restrictions will come into effect in Shrewsbury on Sunday 10 October 2021.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic there has been a considerable delay in implementation of these measures.

The measures include prohibition of waiting restrictions, and no-waiting-at-any-time double yellow lines, at the following locations. The measures will provide junction protection and improve visibility for pedestrians crossing, protect turning movements, and deter commuter parking.

  • Kingston Drive junction with Wenlock Road, and Kingston Drive junction with London Road (including Southgate Drive and Knightsbridge Close) – installation of double yellow lines for ‘no waiting at any time’.
  • Corporation Lane and Westminster Close.
  • Greenfield Street junction with Hotspur Street and Percy Street, and Falstaff Street junction with Glendower Court.
  • Somerby Drive – installation of additional double yellow lines for ‘no waiting at any time’.

In addition, limited waiting restrictions to deter commuter parking will also come in to being in existing parking bays on Longden Road and Stanley Road – to deter commuter parking at both these locations.

All comments received during the consultation have been considered and, as a result, in several locations, proposals have been reduced in length to provide a compromise between securing highway user safety and retention of on-street parking space.
