Corve No 1 Bridge to be repaired following accidental damage

Corve No 1 Bridge on Weston Lane between Brockton and Weston will be closed to traffic from Tuesday 26 October to Thursday 28 October 2021, while important work is carried out to repair accidental damage to the bridge.

To carry out the work safely, it will be necessary to close the bridge to vehicular traffic. The normal working hours will be between 9.30am to 4pm.

If the weather remains reasonable, it is estimated that the work will take up to three days to complete.

When the bridge is closed, traffic will be diverted via the B4368, B4378 and local roads by a signed diversion route. Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the proposed work.

The work will be carried out by the council’s term maintenance contractor Kier, with supervision being provided by WSP on behalf of Shropshire Council.

Dean Carroll, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways, assets and built housing, said:

“It’s necessary to repair the damage that was caused to Corve Bridge and unfortunately that will mean some disruption, for which we apologise.

“We always endeavour to minimise any inconvenience; however, a closure will be needed on safety grounds whilst these important repairs are carried out.”

Dan Thomas, Shropshire Councillor for Much Wenlock, said:

“Whilst it was understandable that this will cause some inconvenience to local residents, this is essential maintenance work which should ensure trouble free passage over the River Corve for many years.”
