Planned safety improvement work on Sundorne Road in Shrewsbury is to be accelerated to ensure access to Severn Fields Medical Centre for people having a vaccination against COVID-19.

The work will reshape the min-roundabout outside the medical centre, and improve road markings and traffic signs.

Under the original plans the road was due to be closed from 9.30am to 4pm from Monday 25 January to Friday 29 January 2021, which would have limited access to the centre.

Now, these works have been accelerated to minimise disruption.

Signing works will now be carried out tomorrow (Saturday 23 January 2021).

A road closure is planned from 6pm to midnight on Monday (25 January) for the roundabout works and road markings.

No further work should be necessary during next week, though this is subject to weather disruption and other unforeseen circumstances.

Under the work the mini-roundabout will be reshaped, and the illuminated traffic signs repositioned. Other existing signs will be replaced and new signs put up at new locations.

Road markings will also be replaced or refreshed on the approach to the roundabout and along the length of Sundorne Road, from Heathgates roundabout to the A49.

A signed diversion route will be place when the road is closed and access to properties and businesses, and for emergency vehicles, will be maintained at all times.

We thank residents, businesses and road users for their understanding while this important work is carried out.
