Westcott No 2 Bridge – closure for repairs from Monday 14 September

Westcott No 2 Bridge will be closed for up to five weeks from Monday 14 September 2020 to undertake essential works to repair scour damage and repairs to the training walls and parapets.

The bridge carries the unclassified road over a tributary of the Habberley Brook from Westcott Wood junction to Brook Coppice near Westcott.

While the road is closed, traffic will be diverted via Habberley, Pulverbatch and Bridges by a signed diversion.

Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the works, and access to frontages will be maintained up to the bridge closure.

The work will be undertaken by the council’s term maintenance contractor Kier, with supervision by the council’s term consultant WSP.

Steve Davenport, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, said:-

“It is appreciated that this bridge closure will cause some inconvenience, and everyone involved will do all that they reasonably can to reopen it as soon as possible.”

Ruth Houghton, local Shropshire Councillor for Bishop’s Castle, said:-

“Whilst the bridge closure is inconvenient, the maintenance work is essential and will ensure the bridge is safe to use for  some time to come. Hopefully the work will be completed on time, if not before, and any inconvenience to local residents will be for as short a time as possible.”
