News from our partners Qube in Oswestry

Oswestry charity Qube have been overwhelmed with the number of entries for their Creativity in Isolation exhibition which launched in May 2020.

The arts team based at Qube on Oswald Road, which is currently closed due to COVID-19, put out a call for work that has been created during lockdown, and it is fair to say the community has responded wonderfully.

The exhibition is being shown online via the Qube website www.qube-oca.org.uk and includes work from all ages, abilities and areas of the community. There are paintings, photographs, textiles and graphic design pieces and all things in between. Over 120 entries have been submitted.

Qube Arts Officer Jim Creed said:-

“We have been completely overwhelmed by the number and quality of the submissions for this exhibition. We wanted to create a catalogue of what people had been doing during lockdown regardless of whether they were professional, amateur or first-time artists, and it has been wonderful to see entries from such a wide range of our community. People have been really innovative and it has been fabulous to receive so many entries.”

Painting by Tara Lewis of ITU nurse Amy Dawson – based at Shrewsbury Hospital. It was painted for the #PortraitsForNHSHeroes campaign.

“I am so glad to take part in the exhibition and very proud to see my painting online. It meant a lot to me to paint it as I lost my grandmother to coronavirus.”

The exhibition is still online and submissions are still welcome, simply email a good quality picture of your work to art@qube-oca.org.uk and it will be uploaded for all to see.
