A one-way closure of Sundorne Road in Shrewsbury – preventing traffic entering Sundorne Road from Heathgates roundabout – will be in place from 29 June 2020 for around one week.

It’s part of work being carried out by Virgin Media to bring fibre broadband to the area.

Virgin Media’ contractor Comex is currently ahead of schedule with their Shrewsbury programme and are now looking to move onto Sundorne Road, where they will need to install 700 metres of microtube in the footways and  construct connecting tees and cabinets throughout the site.

Most of the work will be completed using temporary traffic lights but unfortunately there is one particular section which will involve operatives excavating near to the Heathgates roundabout.

As it would not be safe to install temporary traffic lights near to the roundabout, it’s been agreed that Virgin Media will have a one-way closure in place, preventing traffic entering Sundorne Road from Heathgates roundabout, though vehicles will be able to exit Sundorne Road onto the roundabout as normal.

Whitchurch Road and Featherbed Lane will be used as the diversion route from  Heathgates roundabout.

Cadent Gas have also applied to carry out a new customer connection at the same location which will also require a Road Closure, and they have been asked to work collaboratively with Virgin Media.

Virgin Media are aware this is a particularly sensitive area and will be aiming to get through this difficult section as soon as possible .

Residents, businesses and affected bus companies will be notified of the works and proposed traffic management and advance warning signs will be placed on site.

Both Virgin Media and Cadent Gas will be working to current Government guidelines in regard to safe working practices around Covid-19.
