Coronavirus: Scaffold and skip applications to be assessed

Related topics: Coronavirus / Highways, transport and environmental maintenance

Following revised legislation to assist with social distancing measures in town centre locations, Shropshire Council will be assessing all scaffold and skip applications and proposed locations until further notice, to ensure that social distancing can be maintained.

This could mean that applications may be refused and licences not issued if it’s deemed that a temporary structure or obstruction could unnecessarily impede the safe passage of pedestrians while restrictions remain in force.

Steve Davenport, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, said:

“Applications will continue to be assessed on a case-by-case basis and urgent safety issues taken into account. However I would ask for people’s assistance and understanding should there be cause to refuse an application for the reasons mentioned, and while restrictions remain in place.”

The situation will be reviewed on a regular basis.
