Aylesford Bridge between Marton and Woodmoor – closure for repairs from 6 July 2020

Aylesford Bridge will be closed for up to six weeks from Monday 6 July 2020 to undertake essential repair works, which will involve taking down and rebuilding the downstream parapet, spandrel, right hand pilaster and the top of the righthand side training wall.

The bridge carries the B4386 between Marton and Woodmoor over the Aylesford Brook.

Due to the nature of the repairs a 24-hour road closure will be required for the duration of the works. When the road is closed, traffic will be diverted via Chirbury and the A490.

Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the works.

The work will be undertaken by the council’s term maintenance contractor Kier, and supervised by the council’s term consultant WSP.

Steve Davenport, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, said:-

“It is appreciated that the bridge closure will cause some inconvenience, and everyone involved will do all that they reasonably can to reopen it as soon as possible.”

Heather Kidd, local Shropshire Councillor for Chirbury, said:-

“This is essential work, with the side of the bridge being removed.”
