Shropshire Archives are offering you the chance to see behind the scenes on Saturday 21 March 2020 at their volunteers showcase event.

Shropshire Archives

The event celebrates the work of volunteers at Shropshire Council’s Shropshire Archives, and will allow you to see many fascinating and unique county documents that will be on show.

The documents on display will reflect the work of the volunteers, and include photographs, correspondence from the Berwick family of Attingham Park, and records of Shrewsbury Borough.

Volunteers are involved with cataloguing, answering questions on family history, photographing documents and working on their conservation. All these activities will be happening on the day, which also includes short talks by the volunteers themselves on their work.

Lezley Picton, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for culture, leisure, waste and communications, said:

“This is a great chance to see behind the scenes at Shropshire Archives, including areas not usually open to the public.

“Volunteers play an important role at Shropshire Archives, so it’s wonderful to show them the appreciation they deserve for all their hard work.”

The event runs from 10am-1pm at Shropshire Archives, Castle Gates, Shrewsbury SY1 2AQ and costs £5.
