Related topics: Highways, transport and environmental maintenance

All road closures currently in force will remain in place in Shrewsbury town centre throughout the morning rush hour and into until late morning on Tuesday 18 February.

The police have also currently closed English Bridge to traffic and will remain closed tonight.

Whilst the town centre will be accessible for businesses, commuters are advised to avoid the town centre and use alternate routes.

Please allow more time for your journey. There may be localised road closures in the rural areas; however, this will be dependent on the rainfall overnight. Drivers are also reminded to not drive though floodwater.

As the above road closures will still be in place the Park and Ride will still be affected. Current pick up points are: Oxon: Frankwell Island Meole Brace : Abbey Church Harlescott: Castlefields (New Park Road – town end)

The following council car parks will remain closed: Frankwell Riverside, Frankwell Main Car Park and St Julian’s Friar’s Car Park.

Further information

Shropshire Council have had officers and engineers engaging with partners throughout the weekend and Monday both in Shrewsbury and across the county.

Yesterday Keir mobilised 25 emergency crews along with 5 jetting units, JCBs and roadsweepers countywide and have been visiting affected communities throughout the day. In Shrewsbury six crews have been working to install road closures and diversions across the town and have supported both the Environment Agency, Severn Trent, and the emergency services. Whilst the levels in Shrewsbury and Ludlow are now dropping, the council’s focus will move to supporting properties along the River Severn in Bridgnorth. This is an ongoing situation.
