Shropshire Council is reminding people about parking arrangements in Shrewsbury town centre on the days of the Shrewsbury Flower Show, held on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 August 2019.

Parking your car if you are visiting the show

On the days of the show, Shropshire Council’s Frankwell Main Long Stay Car Park and Frankwell Riverside Short Stay Car Park will be designated as Flower Show car parks only, for use by people visiting the show. In addition, there are temporary car parks at Burrs Field and the Shropshire County Show Ground.

Motorists are advised to use one of these designated Flower Show car parks by following the ‘AA – Flower Show’ directional signs. These will be actively managed throughout the day to help visitors to reach the most suitable car park and manage the traffic flows in and around the town to help keep traffic moving and congestion to a minimum.

The Shropshire County Show Ground car park, although further away from the town centre, will have a frequent free shuttle bus service direct to and from the showground which starts at 9am. Low floored buses will be available for visitors in wheelchairs or with pushchairs.

The last bus back for this site will leave Barker Street at 10.15pm.

Each of the Flower Show car parks will be open from 8.45am on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 August. The cost will be £6 per vehicle all day. There will be enough car parking for all vehicles visiting the show.

Parking for non-flower show cars will be available on Frankwell sports field only before 8.45am, at a cost of £4 all day and is aimed at long stay parking for workers in the town centre.

Season ticket holders, resident permit holders or weekly ticket holders can use Abbey Foregate Car Park. If this is not suitable, people can call Raven Meadows on 01743 356628 and provide their details.

St. Julian’s Friars car park will not be open for public car parking on either 9 or 10 August. People with a resident permit or a weekly ticket can use them at Abbey Foregate Car Park.

Coach parking

Frankwell Main car park is the only free coach park available this year, with capacity for up to 100 coaches.

Those visiting with an HGV vehicle or a non-Flower Show coach visit, should use Abbey Foregate Car Park. Ten spaces are available on a first come, first served basis.

Mobility buses shuttle service

A shuttle service will operate from Frankwell Main car park/coach park for people in wheelchairs, and those who may have difficulty walking, plus their carers.

This service will be available between 9am and 7.30pm.

Drop off and pick up will be at St Chad’s Terrace.

The mobility symbol is incorporated in the AA traffic direction signs.

An extended evening service for Park & Ride

The Park & Ride service will be extended only for people visiting the show late afternoon or those specifically wishing to see the fireworks display.

Buses will run approximately every 15 minutes from 6.30pm, stopping for the fireworks display at 9.15pm and then resuming afterwards until 10.15pm.

The bus stops/drop off points are at Shoplatch and Barker Street where the main access is accessible by St John’s Hill and Claremont Hill. However, people will be picked up only at Barker Street after the firework display has finished.

On leaving the Quarry, passengers should make their way to Barker Street via Claremont Hill where it is signed for the pick-up points and Arriva representatives will be on hand to direct to the relevant terminals until 10.15pm.

A return trip costs £1.60 and the sites are well signed on all approaches to the town centre.

There are no concessionary fares on the evening service as it is a Flower Show special service.

Shropshire County Showground Car Park evening shuttle bus

After the fireworks, the shuttle bus will run from Claremont Hill outside Montgomery’s Tower Bar at 10:15pm.

Local special Flower Show additional evening town bus services

There will be several town services operating with a single departure at 10.15pm from Claremont Street going to the following locations:

  • 2215 Route 1 to Telford Estate – for Abbey Foregate, Monkmoor and Tilstock Crescent.
  • 2215 Route 11 to Gains Park – for Copthorne and Radbrook.
  • 2215 Route 25 to Harlescott – for Meadow Farm Drive, Mount Pleasant and Sundorne.
  • 2215 Route 27 to Bayston Hill – for Meole Estate.

There will be a limited number of spaces on these services, so passengers are advised to leave enough time before departure. Journeys on these services will cost £2 per passenger for adults and £1 per passenger for children.

Concessionary passes are not accepted on this service.

Parking for Non- Flower Show Visitors

The Abbey Foregate Car Park, Raven Meadows Multi-Storey Car Park and the short-stay town centre car parks will all be open as normal on the days of the Flower Show with Raven Meadows remaining open until midnight on both days of the show which is normal operating hours.

Should a vehicle become locked in within the car park customers will need to call Shropshire Council on the out of hours number detailed on the information board at the car park and someone will arrange for the security to unlock the car park. Unfortunately this will incur a lock in fee of £60.00 and your parking tariff.

Park & Ride – normal daytime service if you are not visiting the show

People who wish to visit the town centre to shop or work are asked to use the Park & Ride service.

The site will open as normal with express buses running every 20 minutes from all sites to the town centre. The first bus is at 7:20am on Friday and 8am on Saturday.

From around 8.30am on the Friday and Saturday the buses will increase to around a 10-minute frequency, with the last bus leaving the town centre at 6.30pm.

A return trip costs £1.60 and the sites are well signed on all approaches to the town centre.

Road closures and ‘No Parking’ areas

St Chads Terrace (by St. Chads) on the Town Walls route will be closed for both days. Through traffic will be able to use the High Street or St. Johns Hill.

There will also be closures at High Street, Shoplatch, and St. Johns Hill for 15 minutes for the military parade through the town at around 11.10am on both days.

There will be ‘No Parking’ Orders in place at various locations including Victoria Avenue, Priory Road (emergency route), Claremont Bank and Claremont Street. Also, some other key roads outside the town centre will have No Parking due to Flower Show traffic as these are on busy routes into the town or near car parks.
