Artists, community and voluntary art organisations and anyone interested in the arts are invited to attend an Arts Network Event on Thursday 11 July 2019 at the Guildhall, Shrewsbury from 6pm – 8.30pm.

The event is free to attend and gives you an opportunity to network, exchange ideas and information and learn new skills.

The focus of this event is ‘Open Access’ – Disability & Inclusion Awareness Training, for the arts and cultural sectors. It’s a great opportunity to receive some free training, help develop your skills and improve your practice.

The training will help you to:

  • Develop understanding of the Social Model of Disability
  • Get an overview of some disabilities and conditions and how these may affect participants or audience members
  • Look at the potential barriers for participants and audience members attending your sessions/venue
  • Look at practical solutions staff and volunteers can use to address some of these barriers.

The training will be delivered by Ignition, who are a not for profit arts organisation working with professional artists to deliver participatory theatre projects for social change in community and education settings. They create and deliver tailored and inclusive theatre programmes.

Ignition use multiple arts subjects to offer children, young people and adults the opportunity to participate in high quality artistic experiences with strong social and interpersonal outcomes. The groups they work with are often excluded from mainstream arts activities.

Throughout the evening, artists will have the opportunity to network and exchange ideas and information. Refreshments will be available.

Alexa Pugh, Arts Development Officer for Shropshire Council said,

“This is a great opportunity to develop your skills and improve your practice to help make your organisation and the activities you deliver more inclusive.”
