Work to replace the surface will begin on Monday 29 April 2019 and take around 10 weeks to complete. Work will also include installing new lighting on existing columns, repairs to existing fencing and repairs to existing goals.

Lezley Picton, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for culture, leisure, waste and communications, said:

“The all-weather pitch is an excellent facility and I’m pleased that work will soon start to upgrade it.

“It is a welcome piece of news for the whole community and users from across Shropshire as it will provide the opportunity to enable everybody to be active and engage in healthy sporting activities, whatever the weather.”

Kevin Pardy, local Shropshire Councillor for Sundorne, added:

“This is a wonderful facility for the people of Shrewsbury and the surrounding area. It allows people of all skill levels and ages to experience a top-grade surface. I thank the authorities for ensuring the timing of the work to be done causes the minimal disruption for users.”

Once the improvements have been made the pitch will have full FA accreditation, meaning that the Sports Village will be able to host affiliated football competitions.
