Cound Arbour Bridge – road closure for a fortnight from 11 March 2019

Cound Arbour Bridge will be closed for up to two weeks from Monday 11 March 2019 to enable repairs to be undertaken.

The repair works will involve replacing the damaged cast iron railings with new like-for-like parts, along with concrete repairs to the upstands to which the main posts are fixed. The railings will also be painted.

The bridge carries an unclassified road over the Cound Brook, from Upper Cound to the junction with the A458 at Cound Arbour Farm.

Due to the nature of the repair works to the bridge parapet and alignment of the narrow bridge a full road closure and diversion route will be in place for the duration of the works.

When the bridge is closed, traffic will be diverted to the A458 road near Cross Houses via Upper Cound.  Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the proposed work.

Steve Davenport, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, said:-

“It is appreciated that the bridge closure will cause some inconvenience, and everyone involved will do all that they reasonably can to reopen it as soon as possible.”

Claire Wild, local Shropshire Councillor for Severn Valley, said:

“I hope the work is completed as soon as possible as the diversion is a long one for residents. The traffic lights have been in operation on the bridge for over a year and everyone will be glad to have the repairs completed and lights removed. It is hoped that in the future the access and egress onto and off the bridge can be improved to help prevent further damage and inconvenience to the bridge and residents.”
