Shropshire Council’s Place Overview Committee will help shape the future development and priorities of Shrewsbury, as part of the Shrewsbury Big Town Plan.

The committee, chaired by Councillor Gwilym Butler, will meet with LDA Design, who were recently appointed to undertake the master planning of the town, on Thursday 22 March 2018. The meeting will take place at 11.30am at the Guildhall in Shrewsbury.

Ahead of this, starting at 10am, there will be an overview of the work undertaken by the Shrewsbury Big Town Plan Partnership by partnership lead, Shropshire Council’s economic growth team. This will be accompanied by a walking tour of the areas identified as opportunities to deliver on the vision and aspirations of the plan.

Gwilym Butler, Chair of the Place Overview Committee, said:

“The different approach we have taken with this meeting enables the committee to be fully engaged with, and contribute to, the work of the Big Town Plan and its master planning activity.

“The development of the place-shaping work being undertaken by the committee will benefit from the opportunities and best practice identified in Shrewsbury, and could subsequently benefit all our market towns.”

Shrewsbury Big Town Plan

The Big Town Plan will guide the development and priorities of Shrewsbury, ensuring as a town we are creating and making the most of opportunities, and are well positioned to manage current and future challenges.

The Big Town Plan is a new way of working in the town with diverse stakeholders from across the public and private sector coming together and putting the needs of people at the heart of our plan-making and place-shaping.

The Big Town Plan will ensure that Shrewsbury develops in a way that is complementary of, and sensitive to, the place that it is today. It is vital that the identity of Shrewsbury, the place in which our businesses and residents trade and live, and visitors spend their precious free time, is curated and managed.

The Shrewsbury Big Town Plan Partnership includes Shropshire Council, Shrewsbury BID and Shrewsbury Town Council.
