Libraries set to launch Reading Well books as part of Health Information Week
Libraries across Shropshire will be launching a new book scheme for adults living with long term conditions from Monday 3 July 2017.
The launch forms part of Health Information Week, a national campaign to promote the good quality health resources that are available to the public.
Reading Well for people with long term conditions scheme
The Reading Well for long term conditions scheme will offer 28 books covering general advice and information on:
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
- Heart disease
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome
- Mental health related to living with a long term condition
- Sleeping difficulties
- Pain management
The collection also includes information for family and carers and fiction and personal stories related to living with a long term condition.
The books will be available for anyone to borrow from libraries in Bridgnorth, Whitchurch, Market Drayton, Oswestry, Shrewsbury and Ludlow, while free reservations for the titles will be offered in all other library branches in the county.
Councillor Lezley Picton, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, said;
“With the right support, people with long term health conditions and their carers can live well. In the heart of our communities, libraries are well-placed to offer support, information and a welcoming space and it is good to see this role acknowledged so effectively with the introduction of the Reading Well for Long Term Conditions scheme.”
