Dark Lane, Broseley is to close from Monday 6 March 2017 to enable advance work to be carried out on a scheme to infill an underground reservoir which is partly under Dark Lane. The road will be closed for up to a fortnight.

The closure will be 24 hours a day, and is needed to enable the council to position a drilling rig on the highway, and for access to adjacent land. This rig will to carry out investigation work required before the infilling can commence

Because of the narrow nature of the Dark Lane, this cannot be done safely without closing the road to traffic. Dark Lane will remain open to pedestrians and dismounted cyclists throughout the work.

When the road is closed, the closure will be in the vicinity of ‘Rivendell’, Dark Lane, at the west end of Dark Lane. Traffic will be diverted via Church Street, the B4373 and Ironbridge Road.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, said:-

“It is appreciated that the road closure will cause some inconvenience, and everyone involved will do all that they reasonably can to reopen it as soon as possible.”

Jean Jones, local Shropshire Councillor for Broseley, said:-

“This is essential work to make safe an historic installation, but we do appreciate the inconvenience that will be caused to the community and will continue to liaise with the town council and primary school in order to minimise disruption.”
