Princess Royal visits Carers Trust 4all in Shrewsbury

Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, President of Carers Trust, visited Carers Trust 4All Shropshire Carers Service, Tilstock Crescent, Sutton Farm, Shrewsbury on Tuesday 10 January 2017 to see first-hand the work that they are doing to help and support carers in the area.

Princess Royal meeting young carers on her visit

Her Royal Highness met the Chair, Carers Trust 4all, Mr Michael James and Chief Executive, Carers Trust 4all, Mrs Andrea Kinsey who accompanied her throughout the visit.

Carers Trust 4all offers a wide range of practical services and activities and provides advice, advocacy, support and friendship for carers and people with care needs. During her visit, The Princess met trustees, commissioners and funders, staff who deliver the services, together with many unpaid carers including a group of young carers who are supported by the organisation.

Before leaving, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal unveiled a plaque commemorating her visit and signed the visitors’ book. The Princess was also presented with a gift of a painting by a 13 year old young carer, Katie Evans, together with a Carers Trust 4all calendar.

Mr Michael James, Chair, Carers Trust 4all, said:-

“Unpaid carers are dedicated people who often have to balance their caring role with work and education. For some caring can be an extremely isolating experience with the potential for unpaid carers to feel depressed, tired, anxious and disempowered.

“Carers say that having relevant, up to date information and access to services which offer practical and emotional support is crucial. It can make the difference between being able to cope or feeling isolated and alone. It is a tremendous that Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal has devoted so much time and energy to championing the cause of unpaid carers.”

Mrs Andrea Kinsey, Chief Executive of Carers Trust 4all, said:

“We are delighted that Her Royal Highness found time in her busy schedule to visit us. It is a tremendous boost for unpaid carers, staff and volunteers. During her visit, the Princess was able to meet many of the adults and young carers we work with and hear about their experiences and views on how unpaid carers should be supported in the future.”

Gill Woods, 56, from Market Drayton who cares for her husband, Nigel, 65, a former Market Drayton councillor and mayor, said:-

“It was great to be able to bring Nigel to meet Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal.  She was lovely and really seemed to understand what it means to be a carer and exactly what the system here provides.”
