Wyre Forest natural history talk at Severn Valley Country Park on 10 November

Shropshire Council rangers are very happy to be welcoming awarding winning photographer, John Robinson, to Severn Valley Country Park for a fascinating illustrated talk. John’s talk, The Natural History of the Wyre Forest, will be held at the visitor centre on Thursday 10 November 2016 at 7.30pm-9pm.

In his talk John will shed light on the natural history of the Wyre Forest, a place he knows really well.

John has had a lifelong passion for nature and wildlife photography, and from an early age he photographed everything from flowers, insects fungi and trees. John spent many years as senior warden at Wyre Forest National Nature Reserve, and shares his vast knowledge of the natural history of the area through his photographs.

Some of the species which can regularly be found within the Wyre Forest include the lesser-spotted woodpecker, goldcrest and grey wagtail. Redwings are present during the winter months and barn owls can also be seen. John takes photographs from hides he sets up around the area, but some of his favourites are taken from his kitchen window.

Over the years John’s photographs were regularly published in the weekly magazine “The Living Countryside” as well as in RSPB publications, and his first published photograph was in the book “Encyclopaedia of Birds”. In 1981, John was won the plant section of the “Wildlife Photographer of the Year” competition with an image of Burr-reed giving off pollen.

John has over 50,000 bird and 20,000 other natural history digital images to choose from to illustrate this interesting look at local natural history.

Susie Comaish, visitor centre manager, said:-

“The Wyre Forest used to stretch along the Severn Valley, through the park and along to Bridgnorth. Interestingly, our area of semi-natural ancient woodland, Hall Close Coppice was part of the Wyre Forest. We are excited to see a selection of John’s photographs and look forward to welcoming him to the park.”
