Wayfarers team take up oar-some challenge
A team of adults with learning disabilities in Market Drayton are attempting a challenge to row the length of the River Seven on a rowing machine to help raise money for their comfort fund.
The adults who attend Wayfarers day centre in the town, started their quest at the beginning of November (2016) with the aim to complete the 225-mile feat by the end of the month.
So far the budding rowers have raised over £200.

Bryn Pass, one of the support workers at Wayfarers, said:
“Our rowing team are doing a great job in raising money for our comfort funds. The guys have been doing around 10 miles on rowing machines every day in Wayfarers foyer at Raven House. It’s a hard challenge but we’re getting there.
“We are aiming to complete this challenge in 25 days and team members Mathew Jukes, Phil Watkins, Jamie Smith, Nat Morris, Martin Faulkner have all worked extremely hard in training for the event. We have already had great sponsorship from BodyTech gym, Joule’s Brewery, family, friends and carers, and raised a great amount during our launch day.
“This isn’t just about funding raising, we wanted to make people aware of what our guys can achieve, we are really proud of them.”
Fundraiser Phil Watkins added:
“We are on our way and we know that we are getting fitter as we go on. Please come to Wayfarers and support us.”
Lee Chapman, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for adults, said:-
“The fundraisers completing the challenge and staff at the centre have worked hard in organising and preparing for this event. I wish them every success in completing this mammoth task.
“We would like to thank everyone who has supported us, and hope that they continue to do so. Donations are welcome and can dropped off at Wayfarers at Raven House, Market Drayton.”
