Shropshire Council reaches agreement with Powys County Council over X75 bus route

Shropshire Council has been in discussions with Powys County Council over funding proposals for the X75 bus route from Rhayader to Shrewsbury.

Currently, the X75 bus route stops in Halfway House, Wattlesborough and Ford, and the service to these villages was due to stop in December 2016.

Officers from both Shropshire Council and Powys County Council have been working hard to resolve this in order to seek a resolution to the matter.

A funding contribution towards the cost of the service has been put forward to Powys County Council and this has now been accepted. This will ensure the continuation of this bus service in its current format for the foreseeable future to allow further discussions to continue and to agree a more permanent funding agreement between both local authorities.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transportation, said:

“It’s really important that we don’t allow Shropshire residents to become isolated and officers have worked hard to ensure that we arrived at a resolution with Powys County Council that will benefit Shropshire residents in the long-term.
“Our main concern is for Shropshire residents and ensuring they have the means to get around, and access to the X75 bus service is crucial for some. I’m therefore pleased that we have come to an agreement with Powys that will see this service continue.”
