Shropshire Council is offering visitors to Shrewsbury free parking on Wednesday nights in the run-up to Christmas, starting on 16 November – the night of the town’s Christmas Cracker Lights Switch-on event.

On that day, and every Wednesday evening until Christmas, people can park for free in the following Shropshire Council-owned long-stay car parks from 4pm.

  • Frankwell Main car park.
  • St. Julian’s Friars car park.
  • Abbey Foregate car park.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, said:

“I’m really pleased that once again we’re able to offer free parking on Wednesday evenings in the run up to Christmas. I hope this will encourage people to visit Shrewsbury for late night shopping, to support the town centre traders and to enjoy the Christmas celebrations in the town.”

Kirsten Henly, Shrewsbury BID Executive Director said:

“Shrewsbury has so much to offer in the run up to Christmas and this festive deal for free town centre parking after 4pm on Wednesdays is great news for shoppers, visitors and businesses alike.

“The Lights Switch-on event on Wednesday 16 November marks the start of the festive season and late night shopping Wednesdays run until 21 December. Shrewsbury has plenty of events and shows, as well as shopping, great food and drink venues- all in all, a fantastic seasonal atmosphere for people to enjoy.”
