New venue for Church Stretton art shows

A former Tourist Information Centre in south Shropshire has been given a new lease of life as an exhibition venue for artists from the area to display and sell their works.

The new facility is in the room within Church Stretton Library that used to house the Tourist Information Centre, until that service was moved into the main library space earlier in 2016.

Ellen Atkin, library branch manager, said:

“We have successfully let the room to artists who can use one wall and part of another to hang their paintings and pay us a commission of sales made, and we are keen to also see it used by local clubs, societies and organisations for meetings, workshops, seminars and similar events.”

Stuart West, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for leisure and culture, said:-

“It’s great to see this vacant space within the library being used in a new and creative way. Church Stretton Library continues to be a vibrant hub within the community for residents and visitors alike.”
