A41 Update as of 13.45 pm Sunday 7 August

Shropshire’s A41 near Hinstock will be reopened to traffic from 2pm today, 7 August.

The highway was closed on Tuesday night on 26 July,  after a lorry crashed into a house adjacent to the A41, in Shakeford.

The collision caused major damage to the property which had to be demolished and initial plans to remove the building brick by brick due to the conservation of the property, meant that the road was anticipated to remain closed until mid-August.

However work to demolish the whole of the damaged property immediately, was agreed on Thursday 4 August, as it continued to pose a serious risk to contractors and members of the public.

Councillor Simon Jones Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport said;

“I’m really pleased that the A41 is now open to traffic.  Due to extensive work by council officers and contractors the road has reopened ahead schedule.

“We appreciate that the temporary closure of this road has caused disruption for many who live and travel in the local area, but it had to be done to allow work to take place as quickly and safely as possible.

“I would like to thank everyone who has worked tirelessly to ensure that the work carried out have been as done as effectively and efficiently as possible – they should be commended for their work.”
